Tonight’s Haiku: The Value We Bring

Upon work’s altar
Our lives are a sacrifice
A worthy exchange?

I’ve been thinking about work and our relationship to it.

I Delight In White Noise

White noise’s beauty

Hiding the fearful silence

This mountain of sand

Sometimes I find it hard to sleep in deep silence. Perhaps it’s the urbanite within me. I find comfort in sound. But would I find peace within the raucousness of the jungle?

Monday Morning Alarm Clocks

This Monday morning
My alarm speaks its crass words
My reflex: resist

Ah, the glories of Monday morning’s and those alarm clocks.

Where wind and wave collide

With wind blowing strong
These bold and daring people
Weren’t cowed by this storm

I wrote this haiku watching these two ignore cold and rain, dancing where wind and wave collide.

I’m not asleep

Night fell long ago
Yet sleep is avoiding me
I hear the highway

Oh sleep, I’ve requested your presence some time ago. Sigh…

Oh well, at least I can sleep in tomorrow.

To live where my grandparents lived

I live amongst ghosts
My grandparent’s memories
Amidst these very trees

I walk the same streets my grandparents did. It fills me with connection to this place. Time become more fluid.

Birds Singing at Dawn

The day’s beginning
With amazing potential
Bird’s singing at dawn

Early morning with birds singing boldly. I’m not quite ready to leave the comfort of bed and blankets. The sky slowly lightens, second by second.
