Sunlight Ascending

As sunlight climbs through the trees
Silently caressing my home
Shadows upon my window’s shades
Transform like living Rorschachs
Into distinct leaves, memories
Of the moment that’s fading

Memories of a fading Seattle

Many memories
Walking past the empty halls
In winter’s darkness

Ages ago I lived in Seattle’s heart. At that point, beginning a transformation, becoming the economic behemoth of our now. Then we were still the refuge of the poor, downtrodden. Suburban business professionals drifting through, vanishing as the clock struck five. The flurry of buses and cars carrying them away, far away from us. I found myself wandering nighttime streets, streetlights and gentle rain accompanying my steps. An urban beauty.

Horrible News

Early in the day
Witnessing such suffering
A surreal day

The Amtrak derailment about 60 miles south of me dominated the news, and my awareness yesterday.

Good Morning: A Haiku

Brutal wakefulness
Abrupt, electronic noise
Reality’s grasp

Between fans blowing, my phone pinging, and alarms chiming, my morning is filled with racket.

Within the Morning Rain

I lay within the morning quiet
My mind drifts to memories
As rain’s drumbeat calms.
A strange, irrythmic sound
Unexpected gaps of silence
Cool air chills my fingers

This evening’s walk

A rather warm evening for the end of November. I walked off a few of the feast’s calories, peering at the stars through Seattle’s clouds.

Waking to Rainfall

Waking to rainfall
Bringing forth feelings of “home”
My soul echoing
With memories of drops
Gently rattling
Roofs and windows
When I, wrapped
Securely in blankets;
This world’s savagery
Still a mystery

A Rainy Seattle Friday: Haiku Challenge

Rain is now falling

A #Seattle element

All things grow from there
The “word of the day” was “element”
