LISTENING To MusicĀ

As youth I chose
To deeply explore music
Each word critical

Music is critical to me. For my teenage years, I focused my study there. Well, as best as I could focus at that age. Music means so very much to me. Understanding the way lyrics, melody and harmony intersect for the good of the story carried great value.

I seek to recapture that. Spent some time this morning enjoying it again. Until life’s demands intruded. Soon, I’ll return. These delights critical to my soul.

Defining “Vermin”

Why do we loathe such
These creatures that adapt well
To our wastefulness

Squirrels, rats, myriad insects, and so many other creatures that have adapted well to living in the shadow of humanity. These we loathe, finding beauty in those struggling to find a place in the world we’re rapidly changing.

The Rage Engine: A Haiku

Rage’s engine roars
A machine that churns out death
While rotting out souls

Seems this is the favorite piece of equipment to operate anymore.

Fear Has Plenty Of Company

There are many fears
They will never be lonely
I can leave them be

It’s so hard, sometimes, to disentangle from my fears. They are so deeply interwoven into my life. Yet I’ve rooted out many over the years.

May you be freed from fear’s inertia. From its attempts to rob you of joy and wonder.

And may your Sunday recharge and invigorate you.

A Friday Night In The Suburbs

Birds break the silence
No cares for propriety
Suburbia’s charms

I hope your Friday night we lovely. Tis now time for slumber to dominate.

Hope, Trust, and Pushing Through Limits

Your dreams are reachable
Your hopes? Attainable

By pushing through our mind
And barriers unkind

These fake, empty notions
Defeat with trust, motion

In tonight’s haiku, I try to deal with today’s news

Such wretched sadness
Pained hearts and tears aplenty
Cold rain falling now
